When In Our Music God is Glorified - No. 68 in The United Methodist Hymnal

Choirs     Concert Series     Organ     Carillon Bell Tower

Carillon Bell Tower

The four bronze bells hanging in the Cross Carillon Tower were cast in Holland to local specifications and tuned to A, C, D, and E, and weigh 2,280 pounds. The installation is know as the "European peal" and was new to northeastern Indiana when they were dedicated in 1972. Agnes and Richard Allen gave each of the bells to the glory of God and in memory of a beloved parent. Each bell is so engraved.

These inscriptions show not only the loving kindness and generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Allen, but also the great significance attached throughout human history to the pealing forth of bells. In recent years, there has been an increasing awareness and a new glorification of the bell as a symbol of humanity's communion with God.

All of Fort Wayne, when listening to the bells, will hear the tones of our belief in the brotherhood of man under the fatherhood of God and our invitation to join us.

"For bells are the voice of the church:
They have tones that touch and search
the hearts of young and old;
One sound to all, yet each
lends a meaning to their search,
and the meaning is manifold."
